Yesterday afternoon, Hideo Kojima posted a couple photos on Twitter of a dinner meeting he had with Platinum Games president Tatsuya Minami and game designer Hideki Kamiya. This is an interesting meeting because Kamiya had no part in the development of Platinum Games’ Metal Gear Rising, a spinoff of Kojima’s constantly growing brainchild that is the Metal Gear series. Now of course, these three grown men are entitled to relaxing and enjoying each others company over a nice dinner, but shortly before he posted these pictures he posted a photo having lunch with a couple other friends of his, saying he was on a “business trip.” Kojima is extremely busy with the development of the ambitious and highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and Kamiya is most likely busy with the devlopment of Scalebound which was recently announced at Microsoft’s E3 press conference.
So what is it that could be bringing these developers, and the president of a company together? Could Hideki Kamiya be interested in working on a future Metal Gear Rising title? Could he be eligible to succeed Kojima in carrying on the Metal Gear series? Or even more interesting, could the two be coming together to work on a new IP? These are all very exciting notions, but for now all we’ve got to go on is a few friendly faces sitting down for dinner together, and a photo tweet of the building that houses Platinum Games.
Either way, whatever it is, Kojima seems very excited about it.
